Immigration Department Introduces Booking System for E-Passport Applications ¶
On August 25, the Immigration Department announced the introduction of a booking system for e-passport applications, providing a convenient solution for Kenyans who have had to queue for long hours to apply and collect their passports.
Applicants can now specify the date and time for biometrics and passport collection, reducing the wait time and making the process more efficient.
Public officials with urgent assignments abroad, sick persons, students, and business executives with urgent engagements abroad are exempted from this directive and will be required to provide proof of travel details.
Below are the steps to follow when making an appointment for the e-passport application:
- Register on the e-citizen portal, which is free.
- Click on the 'Get Service' icon and select Department of Immigration Services – e-passport.
- On the Department of Immigration page, click on Passport Application.
For ordinary passports, the fees are as follows: 32 pages cost Ksh. 4,550, 48 pages cost Ksh. 6,050, and 64 pages cost Ksh. 7,550. Diplomatic passports cost Ksh. 7,550, while mutilated passports cost Ksh. 10,050. Lost passports cost Ksh. 12,050.
Applicants are required to appear in person at the designated stations in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Kisii, Embu, or Nakuru. For those in the diaspora, e-passport issuance centers are available in six countries: France, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa.
President Uhuru Kenyatta extended the deadline for e-passport application to March 2020.
