On August 26, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Kaloleni, Kilifi County, when 35-year-old Samwel Mwaki was hit and killed by a car driven by Kenyan comedian and actor Davies Mwabili, popularly known as 'Mwala'.
Mwala, who was driving a Toyota Axio, was intoxicated at the time of the incident, which happened around 11 pm. He attempted to overtake another vehicle but lost control of his car, veering off the road and hitting Mwaki.
The impact was severe, with Mwaki's car being dragged for about 100 meters before crashing into several objects, resulting in fatal injuries. He died on the spot.
Police arrived at the scene just before angry residents were about to lynch Mwala, who is also a radio presenter. He was arrested and interrogated before being released on a Sh40,000 police bond pending arraignment in court.
According to Rabai sub-county Police Commander David Maina, Mwala will face two charges: causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. He is set to appear in court on August 30, 2019, to answer these charges.
