Kenyan international defender Joseph Okumu has made a significant move to Sweden's top-tier side IF Elfsborg on a three-year contract, a development that has been hailed by former Harambee Stars coach Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee.

Published on August 29, 2019, Mulee praised Okumu's almost faultless performance at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, saying he is a 'real talent' who will receive quality football education in Sweden.

Okumu's transfer concludes his two-year stint in the US, where he first turned out for AFC Ann Arbor in Michigan before moving to Real Monarchs.

Ghost drew comparisons between Okumu and the likes of Victor Wanyama, McDonald Mariga, Micheal Olunga, and Robert Mambo, all of whom started out in Belgium before blossoming into world-class players.

Okumu expressed gratitude to those who have supported him along the way, including Kakamega School and Chemelil Sugar FC, as well as AFC Ann Arbor and its coach Rudland.

He now joins compatriots Eric 'Marcelo' Ouma, Ovella Ochieng, and Eric Johanna who all ply their trade in Sweden.
