On Tuesday evening, a bandit attack in Loruko, Isiolo County, left two men dead and a 23-year-old census enumerator, Valentine Lamasia, with gunshot wounds to her right leg.
According to Loruko sub-location census supervisor Peter Lekalkuli, the attackers descended on the village shortly before 7.00pm, killing two men and injuring the enumerator.
Lekalkuli noted that the attack occurred just after he had summoned Lamasia to submit the day's statistics to him for forwarding to the national server.
Despite the attack, the enumeration exercise will continue, as stated by Lekalkuli.
Isiolo North Member of Parliament Hassan Odha visited the area and claimed that the attackers' motive was to sabotage the ongoing national population and housing census.
Odha called for increased security personnel in the area to ensure the census exercise is concluded without further hindrances.
He also announced that security officers had tracked the attackers' footprints to Ngaremara area using sniffer dogs, expressing optimism that the bandits would be identified and brought to justice.
Other leaders present urged the county security team to take action to ensure the census exercise proceeds in the affected area as planned.
