On August 28, 2019, a remarkable display of Kenyan generosity unfolded on Citizen TV's JKL show, as the nation rallied behind 13-year-old Bianca, who is fighting breast cancer.
Bianca, who had undergone a mastectomy but was unable to undergo chemotherapy due to lack of finances, shared her heartbreaking story with the nation, revealing the emotional toll of her diagnosis.
“Nakaa nyumbani tu…ningependa kupona na nirudi shuleni…Niliacha kwenda shule…siwezi kwenda nikiwa hivi; wengine wanasema niko na titi moja na hawawezi cheza na mimi,” a teary Bianca said.
However, just 20 minutes after Jeff Koinange urged Kenyans to contribute, the figure had risen to Ksh. 503,500. An hour later, the amount had skyrocketed to over Ksh. 2.4 million.
“Thank You KENYA!! …Thank You for standing with BIANCA WAMBUI. We have raised Ksh 2,442,500 in 1 Hour!!…Thank You FOLKS!! Let’s keep CONTRIBUTING!!” Jeff Koinange announced.
As news of the fundraising effort spread, Kenyans took to social media to express their solidarity with Bianca, with many praising the nation's generosity and spirit.
