On August 29, 2019, Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, embarked on an unusual project – renovating a junk aircraft he recently acquired from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
The aircraft, registered as 5H-SKT, was initially priced at KSh 120,000 when KAA published an advertisement for its auction. The authority had invited interested bidders for a public auction of the aircraft, with prices ranging between KSh 94,300 and KSh 10 million.
According to a source, the final outcome of Jaguar's project will surprise Kenyans. The aircraft is being repainted red and the renovation work is taking place at Jaguar's residential backyard.
It's worth noting that in June 2019, KAA gave owners of 15 planes abandoned at the Wilson Airport in Nairobi 30 days to offset rising parking fees or face auction. The planes were considered a safety risk.
