On August 29, 2019, Burundi's First Vice-President Gaston Sindimwo spoke with Moses Havyarimana about the country's economy, politics, and regional integration.

Since 2015, Burundi has faced economic growth challenges. However, with its mineral resources, the country is hopeful for a better future.

The government has managed to run the country without foreign aid since 2015, thanks to the support of its partners and the mobilization of the population to contribute funds for the general elections.

As the country prepares for the 2020 elections, Vice-President Sindimwo emphasized the importance of unity and a peaceful vote. He also addressed concerns about the National Independent Electoral Commission, stating that the elections will be credible and that any irregularities will be expressed based on the results.

Regarding Burundi's relations with Rwanda, Vice-President Sindimwo expressed the hope for improved relations, citing the two countries' shared language, culture, and history as a foundation for their neighborly relationship.

Burundi's integration into the East African Community is also a priority, with the country attending all meetings and having a Burundian Secretary General. However, the country has been struggling to pay its EAC dues due to the global economic downturn.

Finally, Vice-President Sindimwo addressed concerns about Ebola, stating that the health ministry has taken significant steps to combat the disease, including vaccinations at border entry points with neighboring DR Congo.
