On August 29, 2019, a love poem composed by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi for his estranged wife, Marianne Kitany, made headlines in the ongoing divorce case between the two.

The poem, which Kitany claims Linturi composed for her birthday, paints a picture of the good times the couple had before their relationship turned sour.

According to the poem, Linturi calls Kitany 'My love, my world, my angel, my everything,' among other endearing names.

One line in the poem reads: 'Every time I set my eyes on you, a part of me softens. You are my love, you are my world, you are my everything.'

The poem was presented as evidence in court by Kitany, who also produced photos and a slideshow of images from a traditional wedding ceremony she claims the couple had on March 26, 2016. Linturi, however, denies that the ceremony took place.
