On August 29, 2019, police in Mombasa arrested a 43-year-old pastor accused of sexually assaulting four minors under his care.
The pastor, a Sunday school teacher and martial arts instructor at a pentecostal church in Jomvu, allegedly assaulted the children between August 21 and 23.
A medical report from Port Reitz Hospital confirmed that the minors, aged between four and eight, had been sexually assaulted.
According to police, the alleged assault was uncovered after a parent noticed her daughter walking with difficulty and the girl revealed she had been raped inside the church.
Following an investigation, police extended their probe to determine if the suspect had been committing similar crimes for an extended period and if there were other victims.
Residents had threatened to storm the church and lynch the pastor, prompting him to go into hiding.
"We urge anyone with information to come forward," said Jomvu police boss James Mutua.
