On Wednesday, a devastating quarry collapse in Lwala village, Suba North, Homa Bay County, claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl.
The Class Three pupil was collecting soil with her siblings to repair their house when the walls of the quarry caved in, burying her alive.
According to Ngodhe Sub-Location Assistant chief Charles Ngoe, the children were digging out the soil when the walls collapsed, trapping the girl in the quarry.
Her siblings, who escaped unhurt, raised an alarm, and local residents rushed to the scene to rescue the girl, but unfortunately, she had succumbed to her injuries by the time they retrieved her.
The body has since been moved to Kirindo Mortuary.
