On August 28, 2019, the Labour Court intervened in a dispute within the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), halting a planned meeting aimed at sacking Secretary General Wilson Sossion.

Justice Byram Ongaya granted an urgent application filed by Sossion's lawyer, Judith Guserwa, who argued that some Knut National Executive Council members were planning to illegally remove Sossion from office.

According to Guserwa, Knut's NEC members had no power under the union's constitution to convene or proceed with a NEC meeting that had been postponed.

“Knut's NEC members are targeting the unconstitutional removal of Mr Sossion,” Guserwa stated, adding that it was only Sossion who was authorized under the law to call or postpone such a meeting.

Earlier, Sossion had issued a Convening Notice for the NEC meeting scheduled for August 29, but administrative issues led to its postponement.
