On Wednesday, a police vehicle was torched in Kirinyaga County, leading to the arrest of seven suspects, including a woman who allegedly caused a scene in court by singing and speaking in tongues.
The incident occurred on Sunday, when a police vehicle collided with a boda boda at Rwambiti area on the Kutus–Kianyaga road, resulting in the deaths of two people and serious injuries to another.
Following the accident, angry boda boda riders and locals torched the Kianyaga Police Station vehicle, leading to the arrest of the seven suspects, who were arraigned before Gichugu Law Courts Chief Magistrate Ann Katheria.
Magistrate Katheria ordered the female suspect, Lydiah Wangeci, to undergo a mental health test before being brought back before the court, while the seven suspects were remanded at Kianyaga Police Station pending arraignment on Friday.
Gichugu Deputy OCPD Afred Ng'eno blamed the boda boda rider for the fatal crash, stating that he was drunk during the accident, and a hunt had been launched for the locals who set the police car on fire.
