Kenya's athletics team continued to shine at the African Games in Rabat, Morocco, on August 28, 2019, securing seven medals in various events.
On the women's side, Mercy Wanjiru secured a silver medal in the 3,000m steeplechase, clocking 9:37.53, while Ethiopian Mekides Abebe Demowoz took the gold with a time of 9:35.18.
Weynshet Ansa from Ethiopia settled for bronze in 9:38.56 after being passed by Wanjiru right after the last barrier.
On the men's side, Cornelius Tuwei secured a silver medal in the 800m event, clocking 1:45.41, while Abdessalem Ayouni from Tunisia took the gold with a time of 1:45.17.
Tuwei's teammate, Abel Kipsang, finished fourth in the 800m event, while Nicholas Kiplangat came in sixth.
Kenya's women's 4x100m relay team secured a bronze medal, clocking 45:44, behind Nigeria and South Africa.
Other notable performances included Mary Moraa, who settled for fourth in the women's 400m final, and Alphas Kishoyian, who came in fifth in the men's 400m final.
