Kenya's team to the World Martial Arts Mastership Championship is confident of winning more medals as the second edition of the global tournament starts here on Thursday.
Kenya won one gold, two silver, and five bronze medals in the first edition in 2016. The team's president, Clarence Mwakio, says they are ready to win more and finish top.
"We've gained enough exposure. What we need to do is to translate that exposure to get good results," said Mwakio.
The 15 athletes representing Kenya have prepared well for the championship and are aiming to win medals in the two-day competition.
Salma Ali Abdalla, one of the athletes, expressed her readiness for the challenge and her determination to win a gold medal for her country.
"I'm proud to be representing my country in this big event and I'll be giving my best to win a gold medal," she said.
The team's motivation was boosted by a visit to State House, where they received the national flag from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The President of the World Tong-IL Moo-Do Federation, Dr Joon Ho Seuk, expressed his happiness at the sport's global spread and its 40-year existence.
