Published on August 28, 2019, five Kenyan boxers are gearing up for the semi-finals of the African Games in Rabat, Morocco.
The Salle Al Amal arena will host the semi-final matches, with Boniface Maina facing off against Nigeria's Abdul-Afeez Osoba in the men's Welterweight (69kg) at 4pm Kenyan time.
Later, Gorge Ouma Cosby will take on Tarik Allali of host nation Morocco in the men's middleweight (75kg), with Ouma expressing confidence ahead of the match.
“I am going to do my best and hope to win today's match in order to enter the medal bracket then we can see which medal I can win if I proceed to the finals,” said Ouma.
Other boxers competing in the semi-finals include Fredrick Ramogi, Shaffi Bakari, Elly Ajowi, and Kimbembi Tshikeva of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Kenyan team's assistant coach, David Munuhe, is optimistic about their chances of progressing to the finals scheduled for Thursday.
“Our boxers are good and although some of them have been eliminated, we still have a lot of hope in the upcoming matches,” said Munuhe.
