On Wednesday, Greg Snow of Muthaiga Golf Club claimed the first leg of the 2019/2020 Safari Tour golf series at the Nyali Golf and Country Club course, despite shooting two over par 73 in the final round.
Despite struggling with a two over par 73 in the final round, Snow managed to claim the top spot in the series, thanks to his impressive performance in the previous rounds.
With a total score of 287, Snow beat local pro and round three leader Njuguna Ngugi by four shots. Ngugi, who was in the lead after the third round, struggled in the final round, picking up a double bogey six at the par four-second hole and a bogey at the opening hole.
Ngugi's struggles continued throughout the round, as he bogeyed the sixth, seventh, and ninth holes, with only a birdie at the fourth to show for it. He eventually finished with a score of 291, just a shot better than third-placed David Wakhu, who carded 75 in the closing round for 292.
Wakhu, who was sponsored by Bet Lion, was disappointed with his performance, citing his poor putting as the main reason for his struggles. He vowed to return to the practice green before embarking on the Uganda Open in two weeks' time.
The second leg of the series will be the Uganda Open, which is worth $50,000 (about Sh5 million) and is scheduled for September 9 to 14 at the Great Lake Victoria Serena Resort.
Kenya Open Golf Limited Director Francis Okwara thanked Nyali Golf and Country Club for hosting the first leg of the series for the second year running. He expressed his excitement for the upcoming events and encouraged more players to participate in the next event.
