On August 28, 2019, a labour court in Kenya temporarily blocked a planned meeting by a faction of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) officials to remove their Secretary General Wilson Sossion.
Justice Byram Ongaya granted the orders after Sossion filed an urgent application through lawyer Judith Guserwa, arguing that some Knut National Executive Council members were planning to illegally remove him from office.
According to court documents, Sossion had issued a Convening Notice for the convening of the NEC meeting scheduled for August 29, but later postponed it due to administrative issues.
However, Sossion received communication through social media, telephone calls, and personal messages that the Knut NEC members were plotting to proceed with the meeting and remove him from office.
Lawyer Guserwa explained that Knut's NEC members have no power under the Knut constitution to convene or proceed with a NEC meeting that has been postponed.
