Truecaller Hits 1 Million Paying Subscribers Globally

On August 28, 2019, Truecaller announced that it had reached a milestone of 1 million paying subscribers globally. The company's premium service has seen a significant growth, with a 130% increase in paying subscribers this year. Notably, 20% of these premium users are based in Africa.

Truecaller's service identifies over half a billion calls a month in Africa, with 50% of SMS received being detected as spam. In Kenya, the app blocks and filters over 7.5 million calls, a 70% increase compared to 2018, and 17 million spam SMS, a 21% increase compared to 2018, per month.

According to Zakaria Hersi, Director of Partnerships in Africa at Truecaller, the organization will continue to innovate and develop advanced features to make communication safe and efficient for its users. Truecaller Premium, which has rolled out new features globally, will now incorporate several advanced spam-blocking features, including automatically updating and blocking top spammers in the subscribers' region.
