On a sprawling acreage in Rosslyn, a new Sculpture Garden is set to revolutionize the art scene in Kenya. The brainchild of Carol Lees, founder-curator of One Off Gallery, and Marc van Rampelberg, a renowned sculpture collector, the garden is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation.
What started as a humble idea to create a space for Kenyan sculptors to showcase their work has grown into a massive exhibition featuring over 60 artists, including some of the country's most renowned sculptors like Samwel Wanjau, Edward Njenga, and Gakunju Kaigwa.
The exhibition, titled 'Form,' is a celebration of the diversity and richness of Kenyan sculpture. From conceptual pieces to abstract art, and even live sculpture, the works on display are a testament to the creativity and talent of the artists involved.
One of the unique aspects of the exhibition is the use of the Sculpture Garden as a venue. The garden, which was created by planting indigenous trees to replace Eucalyptus, provides a spacious and serene environment for the artworks to be showcased.
According to Marc, the curator of the exhibition, the garden is a perfect setting for the artworks, which range from small to large-scale pieces. 'I wanted to open it up and put out the call for all sculptors to bring their art to One Off,' he says. 'That way the premiere exhibition of One Off's new Sculpture Garden could be inclusive.'
The exhibition is set to take place on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Rosslyn Riviera Mall, with tuk-tuks available to transport visitors to the One Off Gallery. The event promises to be a world-class experience, with a light show, live sculpture, and a diverse range of artworks on display.
