On August 28, 2019, a Nairobi court made a ruling in the highly publicized divorce case between Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and his estranged wife Maryanne Kitany.

The couple had raised concerns about distorted media reports and sought to have them restrained from making conclusions.

However, Magistrate Peter Gesora cautioned journalists against misreporting and directed them to comply with media guidelines.

The court noted that the parties had voluntarily decided to have the matter heard in public, and it would remain as such.

Earlier in the case, Linturi had been dealt a blow after a court ruled that Kitany should not be evicted from their Runda home in February 2019.

Additionally, on June 3, 2019, a Nairobi court ruled that the marriage certificate produced by Linturi as proof of marriage to his first wife had discrepancies.
