On August 28, 2019, Major League Soccer (MLS) announced that D.C. United's Wayne Rooney would serve an additional match suspension for violent conduct.

Rooney had already missed a game against Philadelphia Union after receiving a straight red card for elbowing New York Red Bulls' Cristian Casseres.

The red card was issued after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review spotted the infraction, which the referee had initially missed in a crowded penalty area during a corner kick.

Rooney, who is set to leave D.C. United at the end of the season to join Derby County as a player and assistant coach, will now miss a match against Montreal Impact.
