On August 28, 2019, a Nairobi court heard a case against a Chinese investor accused of tax evasion.

Gao Fei, the new director of X-Tigi Technology Limited, appeared before Milimani Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe, where he was charged with failure to declare and remit taxes for a period of eight months.

According to the prosecution, Mr. Fei failed to pay VAT amounting to Sh194,357,743 for the year starting January 2015 to July 2016.

The prosecution also accused Mr. Fei of failing to submit tax returns for the year 2015 and 2016, as required by the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Despite the prosecution's opposition to his release on bail, Mr. Fei was released on a cash bail of Ksh150,000 with a bond of sh1 million and ordered to deposit his passport in court pending hearing.

The case is scheduled for September 26, 2019.
