Jubilee Party leadership has reaffirmed Secretary General Raphael Tuju and Vice Chairman David Murathe's positions amid ongoing internal conflicts, with Deputy Secretary General Joshua Kutuny announcing the decision on July 24. The move comes as factions within the party intensify efforts to reshape its structure ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Kutuny stated the party would prioritize grassroots revitalization, including member enrollment drives, while Eldas MP Adan Keynan emphasized the duo's role in strategic planning. "We recognize internal challenges and will address them internally," Kutuny said, defending Tuju's leadership. "We know our weaknesses and will strengthen them."
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui criticized the decision, asserting: "Their days in Jubilee are over. The party belongs to the people, and we will answer for our performance in 2022." Kinyanjui and Kieni MP Kanini Kega had previously blamed Tuju and Murathe for the party's defeat in the 2020 Kiambaa by-election. Kega, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, called for leadership changes to revitalize the party.
Deputy President William Ruto's allies welcomed the turmoil, accusing Tuju and Murathe of marginalizing their faction. The controversy unfolds as Jubilee faces declining poll ratings and internal power struggles ahead of 2022. Tuju and Murathe have not publicly commented on the developments.
