Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has lost control of the county assembly after his perceived opponents were elected to key House leadership posts.
Waititu had enjoyed the unwavering loyalty of the assembly since 2017, but tables have turned following his dalliance with Tanga Tanga, which put him in tribe with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Majority Leader Antony Ikonya, Chief Whip James Mburu, and their deputies were impeached over claims of conspiring with the governor and Speaker Stephen Ndicho to kill the independence of the House and to suppress oversight.
The MCAs accused Ikonya and his team of running the assembly without consultation, with arrogance, unnecessarily intimidating and frustrating MCAs, being unruly and refusing to be questioned.
The MCAs said they will target other House leaders, whom they accused of embarrassing the assembly by serving the governor's interests, as well as the incompetent and corrupt county executive committee members.
