Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Nicholas Muyoti is optimistic about his team's chances in the 2019/2020 Kenyan Premier League season, aiming for a top five finish.

Muyoti, who joined the team in January, has a squad that he believes is capable of achieving the objectives set out in his contract with the club's management.

“Last season, we had a target of finishing among the top five teams but we did not achieve that since I took over the team in the middle of the season. We hope to do better this season,” he told Nation Sport.

Despite finishing seventh with 52 points in the 18-team league last season, Muyoti is confident that his team can improve with the new players he has recruited.

“When I took over the team, I immediately noticed that it required great transformation in terms of players, but that could not happen last season because the league was already underway,” Muyoti added.

He has recruited several new players, including forwards Ronald Omino and Kelvin Omondi, who have signed two-year contracts with the team.

Forwards Luke Namanda and Maxwell Ravel, who left the club to join Tusker FC and a club in Zambia respectively, will not affect Muyoti's game plan, as their places have already been occupied by new players.

Commenting on the team's opening match against AFC Leopards on Sunday in Kakamega, Muyoti said In'gwe should expect fireworks in the match.

“We defeated AFC Leopards 3-0 at home and drew 1-1 away last season. I don’t see what will stop us from running over them again,” quipped Muyoti.
