Astronaut Anne McClain is at the center of a high-profile investigation by NASA over allegations of identity theft and unauthorized access to her estranged wife's bank account while on a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
The incident came to light after Summer Worden, McClain's spouse, filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the NASA Office of Inspector General, alleging that McClain had accessed her bank account without permission.
According to The New York Times, McClain's lawyer claimed that the astronaut had done nothing wrong and had accessed the bank records to monitor their combined finances, a practice she had done throughout their relationship.
McClain returned to Earth in June, having gained fame for being part of the historic all-female spacewalk team. However, the planned spacewalk was scrapped in March due to a lack of well-fitting spacesuits, sparking accusations of sexism.
