Kenya Airways has struggled with financial losses, with the airline's net loss increasing to KSh8.5 billion in the first half of 2019, up from KSh4 billion in the same period in 2018.
Despite a 12 percent growth in revenues to KSh58 billion, operating expenses rose by 15 percent to KSh61 billion, contributing to the airline's financial woes.
Flight delays and cancellations have been cited as a major factor driving up expenses, which in turn have eaten into the company's earnings.
As of June 30, 2019, Kenya Airways had a negative equity of KSh16 billion, a significant increase from the negative equity of KSh2.5 billion recorded on the same date in 2018.
