On Monday, a 14-year-old girl went missing, and her body was found the next day under a culvert on the Kiboswa-Nyahera road in Kisumu West Sub County.
According to the police, the girl's body was discovered blindfolded with her arms tied to her back.
The girl's mother, Evelyne Akelo, reported that her daughter was last seen on Monday at 3 pm when she left to fetch water from a nearby stream.
Residents of Nyahera were shocked and outraged by the discovery, with some threatening to take the law into their own hands if the police fail to apprehend the culprits.
Human rights defenders, led by Mathias Shipata, called on the police to increase patrols, especially during the census period, to prevent thugs from taking advantage of unsuspecting Kenyans.
Area Assistant Chief Mr. Oremo confirmed the incident and stated that the matter is under police investigation.
The body was taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
