On August 27, 2019, a campaign poster allegedly endorsed by Gor Mahia striker Denis Oliech began circulating on WhatsApp groups for the club's players.
According to sources, Oliech shared the poster without comment, leaving it unclear whether he intends to formally declare his candidacy for the Kibra Constituency parliamentary seat under the ODM party.
Nominations for the ODM Party ticket are set for Friday, August 30, 2019.
Oliech's move comes after speculations that Footballer Macdonald Mariga is Jubilee Party's hopeful for the same seat, allegedly backed by Ruto's wing.
Jubilee party's secretary-general Raphael Tuju has dismissed the claims as 'fake,' despite the letter bearing his signature.
Tuju stated, 'Some busy body somewhere is trying to do something I don’t understand. I will investigate.'
It is worth noting that Oliech signed for Gor Mahia last season, after a two-year sabbatical, but has not been training this season and his whereabouts are unknown.
Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier said he is waiting for a word from the coach regarding Oliech's future at the club.
The Kibra seat fell vacant following the death of Hon. Ken Okoth last month.
