On a Sunday night in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, a High Court judge narrowly escaped harm when police shot at his vehicle.

Judge Martin Muya, who had been reported missing by his wife Haurellia Mbulwa, 56, on Monday, was found driving under the influence after police disabled his car.

According to reports, Muya had called his wife at 10pm on Monday to say he would be home shortly, but he never showed up. His wife anxiously waited for him until 4.30am, when she decided to file a missing person's report at the Kilimani Police Station.

Their son, Benjamin Mati, had been tracking the car through a tracking system and reported that it was moving suspiciously between Kileleshwa, Kabete, and Lavington.

Police on patrol were alerted to the vehicle's details, and they intercepted it in the Kileleshwa area. The police report states, 'The vehicle was circulated and last spotted at Kileleshwa area where by police shot at the right tyre and deflated it which forced the vehicle to stop. Onboard was only the husband who was very drunk…'

Judge Muya denied allegations of carjacking, but police established that he was indeed the driver. He was found to be intoxicated and was driven home by his wife. His vehicle was later towed to the Kilimani Police Station.

No one was injured during the incident.
