On August 26, 2019, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) received a letter from an unknown source listing McDonald Mariga and four others as Jubilee Party aspirants for the Kibra parliamentary seat.

However, in a statement released on August 27, 2019, IEBC revealed that it had been advised to disregard the letter after Jubilee Party denied authoring it.

IEBC's statement came a day after Jubilee secretary Raphael Tuju disowned the letter, which was made public hours after Tuju confirmed that Jubilee would field a candidate in Kibra.

IEBC stated that it had written to Jubilee Party forwarding a copy of the letter for their information and further action.

The fake letter listed Morris Peter Kinyanjui, Walter Trenk Mukinyingi, Said Ibrahim, and Doreen Nangame alongside Mariga as Jubilee Party aspirants.
