On August 22, 2019, Ebru TV management accused comedian Kartelo of failing to honour a census promotion assignment, leading to his termination from the station.

According to a staff memo by Decker Ogada, a manager at Ebru TV, Kartelo was approached to promote the National Census, but he failed to deliver any TVCs as per the client's brief.

Chipukeezy, who co-hosts The Chipukeezy Show with Kartelo, responded to the management's actions by offering to pull off his show from Ebru TV in retaliation.

In a letter to the Ebru TV management, Chipukeezy said he was terminating his contract due to the station's decision to bar Kartelo from appearing on Ebru TV, which he described as censorship.

Chipukeezy also claimed that due process was not followed in the events leading to the decision, and that Kartelo was summarily dismissed without notice or a forum to defend his case.

He further lamented that Ebru TV did not involve him in the discussions, despite knowing that he was an interested party to the matter.

Chipukeezy also pointed out that Kartelo had been part of The Chipukeezy Show at no financial cost to Ebru TV, and that he had personally been handling Kartelo's welfare.

He ended the letter by issuing Ebru TV one month's notice to effect his transition out of the station, but was open to an earlier termination if the station so desired.
