On August 27, 2019, residents of Wiga Village in Homa Bay County woke up to a shocking discovery - a middle-aged man's body lying in a pool of blood inside a Probox.
The body was found by a night security guard who was passing by after work, near Ogande Bridge. The guard had spotted a lone Probox in a thicket and drew near, only to find the body inside the boot.
According to Assistant Chief Andrew Okatch, the body was found naked with physical injuries on the head, and the eyes were gouged out. A stone was found inside the car with blood stains, suspected to have been used in killing the deceased.
Okatch noted that the suspected assailants did not escape with the keys of the vehicle but left everything intact inside it. This is not the first time a body has been found at the same scene, as another body was discovered in 2014.
Residents, led by Margret Obola and Joseph Ogola, expressed concerns over increasing cases of insecurity in the area and called on the government to establish a police post to fight the vice.
Confirming the incident, Homa Bay County Police Commander Esther Seroney said that the deceased was suspected to have been murdered elsewhere before being ferried to Wiga Village. The police found a small bag in the vehicle containing an ATM card, voter's card, and court documents believed to belong to the deceased.
The investigation is still underway to apprehend the suspects, and Seroney called on members of the public with any relevant information to come forward.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Homa Bay county mortuary for postmortem.
