The arrested chiefs were identified as Mr Musa Abdi of Khumbi location and Mr Khalif Sirat Farah of Habaswein central, along with Habaswein central assistant chief Harriet Maow.

According to Mr Kibaara, the three have been accused of inflating the number of households in their locations, with the number of households increasing 'tremendously' compared to what was captured during mapping and pre-listing.

"We are holding two chiefs and an assistant chief for allegedly inflating household units in their areas, investigations have been launched," Mr Kibaara said.

Senior security officers have registered complaints on the manner in which chiefs are coordinating the census process, with areas under surveillance including Mandera West and North and parts of Lafey sub county.
