On August 26, 2019, Jubilee Party announced its decision to participate in the Kibra Constituency by-election, scheduled for November 7, 2019.
Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju stated that the decision followed consultations within the party leadership.
"Our analysis and consultations confirm that our Jubilee Party is competitive enough in the forthcoming political contest," Mr Tuju said in a statement.
He cited the neighbouring Lang'ata Constituency, where Jubilee candidate Nixon Korir won the seat in the August 8, 2017 General Election, as evidence of the party's competitiveness.
Mr Tuju invited aspirants to apply for the ticket, with the conditions and timelines to be determined by the party's National Elections Board (NEB).
"We are therefore giving notice to our members who are interested in contesting the seat on a Jubilee party ticket to forward their applications to the National Elections Board. Details may be obtained from the party's directorate of elections," added Mr Tuju.
The announcement comes after claims that Jubilee would not field a candidate in favour of Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate, in the spirit of the March 9, 2018 handshake.
