On August 26, 2019, Serena Williams proved her superiority over Maria Sharapova in the US Open, defeating the Russian tennis player in a tough encounter.

Williams, 37, dominated the match, winning 6-1, 6-1 in just 59 minutes. This victory marked her 19th consecutive win over Sharapova, a testament to her skill and experience.

Sharapova, who was banned for 15 months after violating tennis rules, has been struggling since her suspension ended. Her high-risk tactics, which were meant to counter Williams' strength and speed, ultimately led to her numerous errors throughout the match.

According to the Guardian UK, Sharapova said, “It’s not an easy road. It’s never been. But I went through a shoulder procedure about four months ago. To find myself playing at a night match at the US Open with people excited about the match-up, it’s a pretty big deal. I’m fortunate to be a part of that,'” highlighting her determination and resilience.

Williams' victory comes after her defeat in the Women's Wimbledon final on July 13, 2019, where she lost to Simona Halep in straight sets.
