Published on August 27, 2019, a tragic incident occurred along the Kianyaga-Rwambiti road in Kirinyaga County, Kenya, resulting in the loss of two lives.

According to eyewitnesses, the police car, which was on night patrol, lost control and collided with a motorcycle carrying three people. The impact was severe, and two passengers succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while the rider sustained a leg fracture and was taken to Kerugoya Referral Hospital for treatment.

Angry residents, who accused the driver of the police car of careless driving, rioted and set the vehicle ablaze. However, the police have disputed these claims, stating that the accident occurred when the rider crossed over to the side of the police car, causing the fatal crash.

Acting Kirinyaga East Police Boss Alfred Ng'eno dismissed the allegations, saying that the officers escaped death by a whisker and that the rider should have observed traffic rules properly. He warned that those involved in the burning of the vehicle will face the full force of the law.

Investigations have commenced, and those found to be implicated will be arrested and prosecuted. The police boss emphasized that hooliganism will not be tolerated in the area.
