On August 27, 2019, an Eldoret court granted a request by five robbery suspects to postpone their sentencing, citing shock at being found guilty of robbery with violence.

Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa agreed to give Vincent Lagat, Alex Nyongesa, Jessy Maina, Daniel Gatuku, and Humphrey Mwangi 25 days to recover before delivering the sentence.

The five were initially set to be sentenced, but they asked for more time to prepare their mitigation. The prosecution and the complainant's lawyer, Ignatius Mwaka, opposed the request, arguing that the case should be closed and justice achieved for the complainant.

However, Obulutsa ruled that the accused had a right to give their mitigation and allowed their request. The case will be mentioned on September 17.

The five were convicted of robbing Robert Kaptich of cash, household items, and phones worth Sh46,450 on December 23, 2017, at Kesses Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County. They were armed with machetes and threatened to harm the family during the robbery.
