On August 27, 2019, a song by the late John De'Mathew, titled 'Property', went viral after his untimely death. The song's lyrics eerily predicted his own demise, which occurred through road carnage.
De'Mathew's song 'Property' contains the haunting line: 'If you want me buried on Saturday, you would give me rat poison; my relatives would be unable to protect me; my mother would never know.'
However, his mother had passed away several years before his death. The rat poison he sang about turned out to be a tragic reality, as he lost his life in a road accident.
Ben Githae, a gospel musician, also referenced the concept of 'mehe mehe' in his song 'Atumia Maracigua na Arume', where he castigates menfolk for their gossip and loose talk.
Interestingly, the term 'mehe mehe' has its roots in the Kikuyu language, but its etymology remains unclear.
