Kaaga Girls High School in Meru County emerged as the top performer in the 2020 Kenya Certificate Secondary Education (KCSE) school improvement rankings, according to Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
Magoha highlighted that schools admitted students with lower KCPE scores but achieved remarkable improvements in their overall performance. Kaaga Girls High School saw its KCPE index rise from 22.38% to 73.98%, while St Joseph Girls Kitale followed with an increase from 21.22% to 71.57%.
Kisasi Secondary School's index rose to 68.2% from 20.48%, and Oriwo Boys, an extra-county school, improved from 31.07% to 78.92%. Other institutions recognized for their progress included Riokindo High School, St. Joseph Rapogi, Light Academy, Moi Gesusu High, Saye Mixed Secondary School, St. Edward Nyabioto, Wiobiero Secondary, Chuka Boys High School, Strathmore School, Bushra High School, and Mahiga Girls.
Magoha praised the candidates' resilience, stating, "They fought their battle with resilience and ended it with grace." The 2020 KCSE saw 747,161 candidates, a 6.68% increase from 697,222 in 2019. The cohort comprised 380,327 males (50.9%) and 366,834 females (49.1%).
