On August 26, 2019, the internal divisions within the Jubilee Party came to the fore as the party's official communication channel contradicted a letter posted by Dennis Itumbi, a key figure in Deputy President William Ruto's office.

The letter, which was dismissed as fake news by the party, claimed that the party had received names of five aspirants to contest in the party's primaries, including footballer McDonald Mariga.

However, in a statement, the Jubilee Party described the letter as fake and stated that any communication regarding the Kibra Constituency by-election would be done through the party's official channels.

DP Ruto's office, however, insisted that the letter was authentic and not fake, leading to a public spat between the two factions within the party.

The split in the Jubilee Party has led to two factions, commonly known as Jubilee A and Jubilee B, or the Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke groups, which are pulling in opposite directions regarding the party's position and fighting to control the ruling party.
