On August 26, 2019, the Jubilee Party refuted claims that former Harambee Stars midfielder McDonald Mariga was among hopefuls for a Jubilee party ticket to contest for the Kibra seat.

Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju clarified that any communication regarding the Kibra constituency by-election would be done through the party's official channels.

According to Tuju, a statement claiming Mariga was among nominees for the Jubilee ticket was fake and should be disregarded.

Mariga has neither expressed nor hinted at plunging into politics in the recent past, and his social media accounts have been quiet for some time.

The party's clarification came after a number of online personalities, including former State House digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, shared the fake nomination statement.
