On August 26, 2019, Australian bodybuilder Calum von Moger, a three-time Mr. Universe winner, shared his bodybuilding tips for beginners on Instagram, urging them to find ways to enjoy the journey, as it's a long road to success.
With a reputation comparable to Arnold Schwarzenegger, von Moger has faced numerous setbacks in his fitness journey, including a torn bicep in November 2017, deep vein thrombosis, and a serious blood clot, as well as a ruptured quad in a cliff rappelling accident.
Despite these challenges, von Moger remains determined, saying, "I have to mentally block myself every time I think 'I can’t' I have to tell myself 'I will'".
His advice for beginners includes:
- Practicing good form and technique before trying to lift heavy weights
- Warming up and stretching properly before starting a workout, and staying hydrated
- Staying focused and avoiding distractions
- Prioritizing free weights and compound exercises, such as squats, deadlifts, and bench presses
- Increasing protein intake, especially after a workout
- Enjoying the workout and having fun, rather than rushing to achieve results
