Published on August 26, 2019, the African Games in Rabat, Morocco, have seen Kenya accumulate five medals – two silvers and three bronze – but the country is yet to win a gold medal.
The women's beach volleyball team and Faith Ogallo (Taekwondo) have claimed silver medals, while Nancy Akinyi (Mountain Cycling), Everlyne Aluoch (Taekwondo), and the women's 4x100m medley relay swimming team have won bronze medals.
Kenya's athletes will be competing in the track and field events at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with Olympic Games and World 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto leading the charge.
Kipruto, who finished fifth at the Paris Diamond League on Saturday, will be competing in the finals alongside Benjamin Kigen and Joash Kiplimo.
Although Kipruto has been battling with recurring injuries, he said he is not yet back to his best but is ready to battle for a gold medal.
“Although I have recovered in terms of injury, I am still not at my best levels since I have also been battling malaria lately but I had to compete in Paris to seek points for the finals,” said Kipruto.
Kenya will also be competing in the women's 5000m finals, with former World Cross Country bronze medalist Lilian Kasait and World Under 18, 800m silver medalist Lydia Jeruto carrying the country's hopes.
