John Zabazungu, a patient who recently went viral after being wheeled to a bank to withdraw money for medical treatment, has passed away.

According to his daughter Molly Nakato, Zabazungu died on Sunday, August 25, at the Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital in Uganda.

The incident sparked outrage online after a photo of Zabazungu at a bank in a worrying state went viral.

Equity Bank, the bank where the incident occurred, had issued a statement saying that the patient was brought to the bank after the family communicated on his condition.

However, the family had initially accused the bank of playing a role in the deteriorating condition of the deceased.

"We had been recommended to see a specialist there (Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital) to work on his throat before he passed on," Nakato said as quoted by Daily Monitor.
