Kenya's census exercise is in full swing, with enumerators working tirelessly to meet the August 31, 2019, deadline. According to Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, each enumerator is expected to cover 100 households by the end of the exercise.

With 138,572 enumerators on the ground, the government is targeting to account for at least 13,857,000 households. To achieve this, the enumerators have been given a tight schedule, with each expected to cover 100 households within a week.

PS Kibicho assured the public that the government has put in place a foolproof system to deter false information and altering of numbers. He also warned that anyone obstructing the enumeration exercise will face the law, with at least 35 cases already reported and a few individuals already in court.

Business owners who heeded the call to shut down their premises by 5PM for the first two days of the exercise have been given the green light to resume operations. The PS also announced that working hours will be extended from 6am to 10pm in urban areas such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kisii, Machakos, and Thika.
