Published on August 26, 2019, a Nairobi court heard that nine members of the Kiambu County Assembly have instructed a lawyer to have them enjoined in the Ksh.588 million graft case against Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

The MCAs, through their lawyer, intend to watch brief in the case, but the defense has objected to their application, citing lack of locus standi.

Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi directed the MCAs to file a formal application and their intention to participate in the case.

During the pre-trial hearing, the prosecution stated that it has supplied the defense with all witness statements.

The pre-trial hearing was set for September 27, 2019.

Governor Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari are charged alongside eight other suspects with the embezzlement of over Ksh.588 million public funds in Kiambu County.

Waititu was released on a Ksh.15 million bond and a Ksh.30 million cash bail, while his wife was directed to deposit Ksh. 4 million cash bail and a bond of Ksh. 10 million or surety of a similar amount.
