Published on August 26, 2019, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made it clear that he will not beg for political support from opposition leader Raila Odinga in his quest to become President in the 2022 general elections.

Addressing a gathering during the burial of Machakos MP Joyce Kamene's father, Mr David Makumbi, Kalonzo expressed his readiness to compete fiercely with his opponents without seeking backing for the top seat.

His statement came in response to calls from some Ukambani politicians who urged him to negotiate for the presidential slot when forming any political coalition with leaders from other communities.

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and several MPs, including Patrick Makau, Joshua Kimilu, Robert Mbui, and Vincent Musau, were among those who made the calls.

"We have a presidential candidate, what we are looking for is a running mate," said MP Joshua Kimilu.

Mr Muthama also stated that other Ukambani politicians who had declared interest in the presidency, including Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, were not a match for Kalonzo.
