On Sunday night, a tragic road accident occurred in Kirinyaga County, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving another seriously injured.
The incident took place at Rwambiti area on the Kutus–Kianyaga road, where a boda boda carrying two passengers attempted to overtake another car and collided with an oncoming police vehicle.
According to Gichugu Deputy OCPD Afred Ng'eno, the boda boda rider died instantly, while one of the passengers succumbed to injuries at Kerugoya Hospital. The third victim is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Following the accident, a group of angry boda boda riders and locals took to the streets, torching the Kianyaga Police Station vehicle in the process.
Deputy OCPD Ng'eno attributed the fatal crash to the boda boda rider's alleged intoxication during the accident. He also announced that a manhunt had been launched to apprehend the individuals responsible for setting the police car ablaze.
Ng'eno stated, 'We will arrest the suspects, we have their names.'
