As of August 25, 2019, Kenyans seeking to obtain e-passports will need to book appointments in advance through the e-citizen portal before visiting passport processing centres.
The Department of Immigration announced the new system in a statement, citing the need to address congestion in passport processing centres.
According to the statement, applicants who have already made their passport applications online are advised to revisit the e-citizen portal to book their appointments.
Exemptions to the new system will be made for public officials with urgent assignments abroad, as well as sick persons, students, and business executives with urgent engagements abroad.
The appointment system aims to streamline the passport application process and reduce congestion at processing centres.
